28 week update

How far along? 28 weeks - I'm a week behind the catch-ups

Maternity clothes? Oh yes, and getting sick of them too...

Stretchmarks? Still no - which is a good sign! Thank you genes :)

Symptoms: Still tired all the time - this week I had some particularly tough nights but at least the night after I always sleep well because I'm so tired!

Sleep: See above and last week's update - and on top of it all I have developed a fear that Marc is having an asthma attack so I cant get back to sleep when his breathing or snoring wakes me up and then I wake him up> I'm trying to be be quite strict with myself and make sure I dont wake him up! I also need to stop being frustrated if I dont get enough sleep...

Miss Anything? Sleep... Hehe, pregnancy is training me for the new arrival!

Movement: Lots and lots of movement - unfortunately we didnt get to see much at our last ultrasound as it was a very quick one. You can definitely see the baby moving in my stomach, which is cool and weird at the same time!

Food cravings: Pretty much the same as usual... Fruit, ice-cream and yoghurt - oh, I forgot I am in love with donuts this week!

Belly Button in or out? Still shallow but not getting any shallower for the moment

Happy or Moody most of the time: Bit more cheerful - I had a day off and spent the day washing the baby clothes and organising it's things which was really fun! Work was a bit easier too which helped...

Looking forward to: The baby room getting started - room is organised, materials have been bought, now the transformation needs to get underway!

26 and 27 week update

How far along? 27 weeks last Sunday - I'm a week behind the catch-ups but I'm just going to do this one for the past 2 weeks then. Officially in my last trimester! Yay!!!

Maternity clothes? Yes for everything, I am getting big hehe

Stretchmarks? No, Mum told me that she never really got any - fingers hoping that her genes hold out and I dont have any either

Symptoms: I havent been feeling so good ever since the 30th birthday suprise party we organised - I think I overdid in terms of preparing and organising. On top of that, I think I am in a rapid growth phase which is always uncomfortable. Basically everything hurts, I am tired and subsequently a bit grumpy. Once I am used to this stage of pregnancy things will get better... Oh, and heartburn / reflux is making its presence known - having said that it comes and goes and someone told me that it means the baby is growing lots of hair... hehe, it could be worse in the scheme of things!

Sleep: See above - I dont know if sleep is going to get any better from now on in. I have such a hard time getting comfortable! Oh well, helping me to prepare myself for when the baby comes! Weirdly, I am a much lighter sleeper than normal - not initially when I go to bed but I am waking up in the early hours of the morning from the slightest noise (Marc's breathing will sometimes wake me up if he has asthma or allergies) - and I lost one of my earplugs so I have a hard time falling back asleep.

Miss Anything? Spring is arriving! This past week has been beautiful and sunny and WARM! I'm missing the chance to have an apĂ©ro on the terrasse... I have already planned my most craved for foods for after the birth (poached eggs / eggs benedict, smoked salmon, CHAMPAGNE, steak cooked medium rare, chocolate mousse...)

Movement: Baby is an acrobat! It moves soooo much, and I can feel that the baby has less space to move around. It is also kicking me in some uncomfortable places (my ribs ache by the end of the day sometimes...) I cant wait to see what position it is contorted into at the next ultrasound previous ones have been crouched like a frog and foldeed in half with legs touching the nose) - and hoping for something simple so we can have a 3D picture this time round!

Food cravings: Nachos :) like how we used to make it at home with Kelly and Cody! I added some chopped vegetables to make it "healthier". I have not been eating as well as I could this past week - I guess being uncomfortable and tired has made me a little lazy. I have eaten more Mars Bars in the past 2 weeks than in the 5 preceding years... I might have to buy another on the way home tonight :)

Belly Button in or out? Its definitely going to pop by the end!

Happy or Moody most of the time: A bit grumpy this week... But lovely weather on the weekend has given me a boost!

Looking forward to: Ultrasound on Wednesday - I'm addicted to seeing the baby and hearing the heartbeat! We are both completely in love with the baby already - just impatient to meet our child! (But glad we still have 3 months to get things ready...)

25 week update

How far along? 25 weeks last Sunday - but to be honest I am more counting the months! 1 week off being 6 months!!!

Maternity clothes? Yes for everything, no normal t-shirts fit me anymore, they are all too shor and ride up over my belly:)

Stretchmarks? Still not yet. But my veins are standing out more especially because I have a milky moonlight tan... I could glow in the dark!

Symptoms: Still feeling generally pretty good but I do notice that if I do too much I tire out very quickly. I decided to deep clean the kitchen last weekend, and it made me so tired for the rest of the week. Other than that, I have leg cramps from time to time, but I read that this happends when you are on your feet too much (which was the case this past week between cleanin, shopping and a last minute trip to France for work)

Sleep: Better, I have to careful to not fall asleep on the lounge as I wake up with a very sore back...

Miss Anything? Not being able to do everything I want without tiring myself out too much. We are planning a surprise party for Marc's best friend this weekend, and having to spread all the prep over the whole week means I have no time to myself. I miss just getting everything done all in one go! (but know I can't or I wont even last 1 hour at the party because I will be so tired)

Movement: Still alot! Some days are quiter than others - normally after a particularly active day the day before - I guess the baby gets tired too:) Best moment this week: Seeing how the baby can react to us already - it felt like it was playing with Marc when he was rubbing my belly the other night:) Maybe that is just wishful new parent thinking, but it is a nice thought anyway! We have also started getting prices for redoing the office for the baby room. Of course, we are trying to do things on a budget, but we are both really excited to create a nice space for the baby to come home too...

Food cravings: Nothing really this week... Its been a lazy cooking week actually!I wish I could have eaten some of the raw cake batter from the 84 cupcakes I made... (literally 84 cupcakes!!!) Anything making you queasy or sick: I ate spaghetti and meatballs last week when Marc's parents came over for dinner - I think I am over the tomato sauce stage. Funny story: Marc's brother didnt understand why I couldnt eat tomato sauce and told a family friend that in Australia pregnant women cant eat tomatoes! I must explain these aversions more clearly next time, or Belgians might get some funny ideas about Australian mums-to-be... Belly Button in or out? Shallower again...

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy most of the time according to me... Marc might say moody hehe What can I say? Sometimes the hormones get the better of me?

Looking forward to: Making it to the 6 month mark so I know Ive only got 3 months until I meet our baby:)In the short term, finishing my current project at work so I can have a bit more free time and relax a bit more too...

24-week update

I have found a questionnaire that I will answer - that way I am more likely to keep on doing the updates!

How far along? 24 weeks on Sunday (soory picture below won't rotate, but this is the baby's face in profile)

Maternity clothes? YES!!!Even starting to fit into some of the giant pants with waistbands up to my armpits. Some normal clothes, a couple of loose tops still fit or were lent to me in bigger sizes are still ok. But maternity clothes are really the most comfortable because they dont ride up and are comfortable over my stomach

Stretchmarks? Not yet, despite my lax attitude to moisturising. I have started this week, but am not using anything special. Sorbolene cream in the morning, and some of my perfumed moistriser at night. My skin does feel tight and itchy, so I think it was a good time to start... Having said that, it is apparently genetic - you either do or you dont have them? Not sure what happened for Mum or either of my grandmothers

Symptoms: I am feeling so good! Of course a bit tired, and sometimes I feel heavy. But I am loving this stage of my pregnancy!

Sleep: Ok - depends on whether or not I am overtired. I have to sleep with this giant long pillow thing as I have been waking up with really bad back pains due to some weird sleeping positions. The pillow helps me to stay comfortable & non-contorted. I am waking up less too from being uncomfortable. Maybe pregnancy sleeping problems are a way to prepare new parents for being sleep deprived?

Miss Anything? Having to watch what I eat. Both foods to avoid, and making sure I avoid being hungry. Having said that, I have only put on 2kg! I'm trying to listen to my body and not let busy work days get the better of my eating habits

Movement: Lots and lots! My little acrobat loves to move around - generally just before dinner time and when I'm in the car home. I often sing along to music in the car - maybe it doesnt like my singing?

Best moment this week: Marc finally feeling the baby moving! It's kicks were particularly strong on Sunday night, and it was pretty awesome for him to feel how the baby moves around! Another great moment was at the ultrasound - the baby was swallowing / breathing and even yawning alot! And I always love hearing the heartbeat...

Baby yawning (again can't rotate the photo, grrr!)
Food cravings: Ice-cream, greek yoghurt, casear salad and avocado... All relatively creamy things? I am also madly craving Indian food but I dont think this is baby related - Marc bought me an amazing Indian food cookbook for Christmas (Rick Stein - everything I have made has turned out awesome so far!)

Anything making you queasy or sick: The idea of tomato pasta sauce is still turning me off - but I'm trying to slowly test re-introducing cooked tomatoes back into my cooking

Belly Button in or out? In - but noticeably shallower. I think it has a good chance of popping out by the end

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy most of the time. A bit worried and sad yesterday, as I found out that it is most likely I will have to have a caesarian due to a very low placenta blocking the baby. Otherwise, baby is happy and well - growing as should be with a model-like size! I'm hoping that I will be the exception to the rule, and everything will move into place in time to let me give birth naturally (of course helped by alot of drugs hehe). In the end though, I have to come to terms with whatever happens - and I know that no matter what I have to do, I will do whatever is necessary to have a happy and healthy baby!

Looking forward to: Meeting our baby!!!! Some time off work at Easter in the near future, and starting to tackle the baby room... Ok now time for some ultrasound pictures - make of them what you will!

Bonjour... At last!

Hi everyone,

We have finally gotten our act together and started this little blog to keep you all updated about how things are going as our baby prepares itself for it's arrival... To start with probably an update of where we actually are now. At 5 1/2 months, time is flying, and seems both like it was yesterday and a year ago that we found out the good news! I still remember calling Marc into the bathroom extremely scared and nervous with a positive home preganancy test in my hand. A week later the doctor confirmed immediately - not with a blood test as I expected - but with a heartbeat and an ultrasound straight away! Hearing the heartbeat and seeing this little peanut really was the most immediate confirmation.

Having being somewhat ignorant to the fact that the fatigue and nausea was actually all of those wonderful pregnancy side effects, I only really was conscious of morning sickness etc for about a month. Oliver and Anna can attest to both strange cravings (ice-cream and milo, corn chips everything!) and aversions (any sort of tomato based sauce), and of course the crippling tiredness (though whether or not this was my natural laziness manifesting itself is another question!). Baby continued to grow, and I am loving the monthly ultrasounds provided by the generous Belgian healthcare system.

However halfway through the 4th month, this all started to get better, I had lots more energy and regained some of my appetite! It took a little while for the baby bump to emerge, but by the end of Janaury the bump was there along with some little champagne bubbles in my tummy!

Feeling the baby move was one of the most amazing things, and I am loving every second that I can feel it move - I like to imagine the baby is dancing, playing and swimming around! It is getting stronger and stronger everyday, and now Marc can feel the kicks and punches as the baby moves around... Marc spent last week in the French Alps, and it was a nice surprise when he came back to see a much more rounded bump! I am definitely looking pregnant now :) I am going to keep updating - trying to keep some info secret (the sex!!!)- and of course adding lots of photos Wish you were here...
